Gabriel Ma

Gabriel Ma is an operatic tenor, choral conductor, and music educator.

A graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Ma studied under Professor Carlos Montané for his bachelor's and master's degrees in Music (Vocal Performance), with an Outside Field in Choral Conducting. He also holds a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Ma is now a budding Young Artist at Hong Kong Grand Opera under the notable operatic bass, Mr. Dong-jian Gong.

A multi-faceted musician, Ma has served in multiple roles both on and off the stage. Onstage, he has performed in the roles of Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) and Monostatos in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) in the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar. Offstage, Ma has administrative capacities related to arts development, which are invaluable to designing relevant learning experience for students. Locally, he is experienced in teaching school and children's choirs and has served as a vocal coach for musical theatre productions. These experiences enable him to have his own insights into the establishment of music foundation and confidence in children.
